Drug And Alcohol Addiction

When a person takes things like alcohol or drugs, these substances alter the chemical composition of the brain. These alcoholic drugs release endorphins, that are pleasure causing agents. As a result the person loses all his inhibitions and feels "high".
Addiction has grown to be a disease of major concern for almost everyone now.once the person is used to alcohol or drugs..the focus is on just a single thing, the next high or rush. He spends all his energy in getting the drug or the alcohol and nothing else matters to him....thereby spoiling his life.

The reasons for addiction could be either

* Genetic,
* Low self esteem or
* Emotional Factors of ones Life.

The Effects of addiction can be...

1) Physical Health Effects : Excessive alcohol consumption may lead to cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatitis, epilepsy, polyneuropathy, alcoholic dementia, heart disease, increased chance of cancer, nutritional deficiencies, sexual dysfunction, and death from many sources.

2) Mental Health Effects : Alcohol misuse is not only toxic to the body but also to brain function and thus psychological well being can be adversely affected by the long-term effects of alcohol misuse.
Psychiatric disorders are common in alcoholics, especially anxiety and depression disorders.

3) Social effects : Being drunk or hung over during work hours can result in loss of employment, which can lead to financial problems.
Drinking at inappropriate times, and behavior caused by reduced judgment, can lead to legal consequences, such as criminal charges for drunk driving or public disorder, or civil penalties for tortuous behavior.
An alcoholic's behavior and mental impairment while drunk can profoundly impact surrounding family and friends, possibly leading to marital conflict and divorce, or contributing to domestic violence.
This can also contribute to lasting damage to the emotional development of the alcoholic's children, even after they reach adulthood.

Therefore alcohol addiction has to be seriously dealt with and not neglected.
